Hectic Day on Kilimanjaro

A Hectic Day on Kilimanjaro promises a challenging but rewarding adventure. Here is a detailed overview of what you can expect on such a day:

Waking Up:

  • Your Kilimanjaro Travel Guides will wake you up between 6:00 and 6:30 in the morning.
  • You'll be offered a hot drink and warm water for personal washing.
  • Since there are no shower facilities on the mountain, you'll mainly wash your face and hands.

  • Breakfast will be served between 7:00 and 7:30 in spacious dining tents equipped with tables, chairs, dinnerware, and silverware.
  • While you enjoy your warm breakfast, the team will pack up your tent.
  • During breakfast, your Climb Kilimanjaro Guide will brief you on the plan for the day's climb.

Routine Health Checkups:

  • After breakfast, the guides will conduct a basic health check-up.
  • They will monitor your vitals and update your health chart.
  • This includes measuring your heartbeat and oxygen saturation using a pulse oximeter.

  • Ideally, you'll begin your Kilimanjaro climb between 8:00 and 8:30 in the morning.
  • The trekking hours can vary depending on the route and the day, but typically it will be around 4 to 7 hours.
  • The Kilimanjaro Crew will clean up the campsite as you set off and trek ahead to prepare food, arrange water, and set up the next camp.
  • You'll find your tent almost ready upon arrival at the next camp.

  • Upon arrival at the next camp, you'll be provided with warm water and then served coffee, tea, or hot chocolate with snacks in the mess tent.
  • A delicious hot lunch will be served, and on longer days, you might have a lunch box or picnic lunch halfway.
  • If the weather permits, a table will be set up outside to enjoy the meal amidst nature.

Afternoon Activities:

  • After lunch, you'll have some time to rest and relax before continuing the trek towards the next camp.
  • It's advisable to carry waterproof gear, such as trench coats, rain capes, or umbrellas, as rainfall is common, especially in the afternoon and at lower altitudes.
  • Upon reaching the next camp, you can unpack, relax, and enjoy an afternoon snack, which typically includes popcorn or peanuts and a hot drink.
  • You can also socialize with other climbers, play card or board games, or explore the surrounding area.

Arrival at Camp:

  • As soon as you arrive at the camp, the Kilimanjaro Porters will provide hot water for you to freshen up.
  • You can then enjoy coffee, tea, or hot chocolate with snacks in the mess tent.

  • Dinner is served around 7:00 pm in spacious mess tents equipped with tables, chairs, dinnerware, and silverware.
  • After dinner, you're free to socialize, read, or relax after a long day.
  • Accommodations on all routes involve sleeping in tents, except for the Marangu Route, where you'll sleep in mountain huts..
  • Waterproof sleeping tents are provided for all climbers and staff.

Briefing for the Next Day:

  • Every evening after the meal, your guide will brief you on the schedule for the next day.
  • The briefing will include information about the altitude, walking distance, and recommended attire for the night.

Schedule for Summit Night:

  • Summit night is the most challenging part of the climb, lasting 12-16 hours.
  • You'll have an early dinner at the Base Camp and receive a briefing on how to dress for the summit.
